| The big year 2000 put behind it all of the classic days of 32bit with a new era for high-end graphics on consoles for all the family to enjoy. So a new millennium and some new consoles to go along with it, Not bad. My main interest again over these few years had to be the Xbox, it was new, exciting and made by Microsoft. With me being fairly young back in 2002 I had to save every penny I could over the months before launch in-order to even afford the whopping £300 price-tag. Enjoy some of my memorial gaming stories over 2000 till 2005: |
Year 1
2000 - Shenmue
Test for 2001
Year 2
2001 - Ultima Online

Ahh my precious Ultima Online playing days, how memorial you were. My UO addiction first started in my early teens when all my mates at school kept going on about mighty war hammers and bright blue mustangs and for a few weeks I didn't have a clue what they were on about and kept shunning off UO as I thought it sounded a bit lame and with the graphics, arg I was too busy using my 56k setup for CS. After a few weeks a mate of mine came to my house and forced me to install it and then it began... for the next year or so I was loving UO. The only server I really enjoyed was Santiago but I did play a few other shards, AtlantisUO, Mythik and I had helped in creating Sant PVP, Santiago V2 and Euro PVP. But for me UO was only complete when I was playing on the Santiago server all those years ago, the shard wasn't based off the EA servers and was fairly easy to macro to get your skills up and removed most of the role-playing style combat. I was always the hunter/crafter compared to the PVP (although I did enjoy PVPin with my mates and actually got pretty good at one point) and I joined the infamous guild of KOJ (Keepers of Justice). This was fantastic, the guild was run by a Canadian family (Savanna Sinder, Avril and some others that I can't remember their names) and was based on community rather than PVP constantly like most of the other guilds on the server. I became fairly high in the KOJ chain (co-owner) and was involved with creating guild tourneys and special holidays events for our members, I really enjoyed doing this kind of stuff as it was like a group of mates rather than waiting 2 weeks for someone to steal all the guild loot. I've gota mamny memories of UO and maybe I'll write them up one day as a tribute, but for now this is all you are getting.
Year 3
2002 - Xbox

My original Xbox what a bit of kit. I've got so many memories of the Xbox I'm not sure where to begin, this is probably going to be one of the more in-depth articles as it was the first console I was truly hyped over as it was being purchased a 100% by me and my money. Way back when me and a few of my mates used to go to our local town nearly every weekend on the bus and this always involved going to our local toys-r-us to play on their Xbox before launch. One of my friends was also saving up for an Xbox for launch so we would stand their playing the 5 minute demos in Toys-r-us for ages while being shocked on how good the graphics are. Skip a few months later and it's the big Launch day, 14th March 2002. |
I would of been 14 and this was a big day for me but being stuck at school was torture. Luckily enough I had ICT in which my brother sent me the picture shown to the right as he had the day off college (yes that's the original Pic from 14th March 2002!) but my friend wasn't so lucky who spent every 10mins calling his Dad asking if it had been delivered. After realising it hadn't come my mate spent the rest of the day carving out "EB Sucks" (Electronic Boutique) into whatever surface he could find. The worst time had to be the bus ride home from school as I lived around 20-30minutes away from school which meant one tormenting wait until I could run home! Once off the bus I didn't quiet run to my house (5min walk) but I wasn't walking either, a good 30mins later it was all setup and I was enjoying the glorious Halo glow of my new Xbox. I'll have more about the original Xbox in some of the other articles such as getting Xbox Live. Big shouts to my brother for taking the picture, haha!
