These are some of the biggest years that the gaming industry has ever seen and where the "next generation" began. The biggest event for me has to be the Xbox 360 launch way back when in 2005 but we have seen two massive years for game releases in 2007 and 2008 so overall it's been a huge few years. Games are actually beginning to look photorealistic, they are still a fair way off mind you but games are slowly getting there. For example every time I see a screenshot of the Project Gotham series I have to double check! Anyways, here are some memories of my gaming history over the past 4 years or so:

Year 1

2005 - Xbox 360

2 Xbox 360s for launch day! Who said they were in demand?

Late 2005 finally brought us the "Next Generation" of video game systems and it came in the form of the Xbox 360. Check out the picture of me opening the box with two 360s! Who said they were in demand? My brother and I both had a Xbox 360 for launch but we did have some difficulties with Gameplay were they only sent 2 games rather than the 5 we had on order along with no extra controller. So I spent the next 2 days just playing Project Gotham 3 and Hexic as I wasn't a fan of Kameo and none of the other games had turned up... Still this late in the year gaming was fairly quite (for myself) and there wasn't that many great games for the Xbox 360 bar Call Of Duty 2 and Project Gotham 3. But finally a new console after years of playing solely on my original Xbox I had something new to play with. I'll have more about my newly acquired Xbox 360 next year along with some awesome pictures of my first setup, it has to be seen to be believed.

Year 2

2006 - Xbox 360 Setup

This picture was atually taken in 2005 just after I got my 360.
Here's my first picture I took of my brand new Xbox 360 way back when in 2005, I know this is about 2006 but I couldn't let a picture like this go to waste. That poor TV doesn't stand a chance against the 360's crazy overheating problems (which I had a few months later). So around 3/4 months after having the machine it decided to get the Red Ring of Death which meant a lovely waiting period of 4 weeks but which all went very smoothly. Xbox 360 games were still on the slow side with no return of the huge Halo franchise but by now a few of my friends at college had the system and we would play Call of Duty 2 online whenever we could. A mate and I actually started getting really good after the patch had been released making it playable, we got to the point where we would win games by a margin of 20-30kills. This became very satisfy and we would have some really fun challenging games at time along with the more relaxing games when we could mess around trying to get in random glitched spots around the maps (non beneficial). Overall an easy yet exciting year in my gaming career ;)

Year 3

2007 - New PC

My new Quad-core PC After years of running on my old P4 with some slight upgrades I realised I really needed a new computer as was having huge problems with the motherboard on my old P4 computer (now my arcade machine). This is the first PC I have purchased and built a 100% by myself as beforehand my brother built the P4 PC and all of the computers I had before hand were custom built via different computer companies. I'm guessing this is why my old P4 machine sucked considering a graphics card blew-up in it, along with a hard drive and a few USB devices, I blame my brothers CPU building skills! Along with my new computer I purchased myself a Logitech G25, something I have wanted for years! The wheel is amazing and I still use it nearly daily year or so on, for more detail about the wheel and PC specs check out "My Setup" article here or here for version 2.

Year 4

2008 - GTA IV

My Copy of GTA IV had to be delivered to workAnother big year for games was 2008, just after the crazy Christmas season of 2007 with Halo 3 and a like 2008 brings huge AAA titles all year round. The game that everyone wanted had to be GTA IV as no-one really knew what to expect from it until the reviews came out a week or so before launch, as for myself I had seen nothing about the game apart from the official trailers which were fairly impressing. From what I've played of it I found it really impressive apart from its very different from previous titles in the series, for example there aren't as many crazy mini-games and the physics have changed dramatically. Is this better or worse? Well that's all about personal opinion and I actually prefer it in some senses but I believe the setting of game means it can't be as good as GTA: Vice City due to lack of colours and entertaining scenarios. But along with GTA came Rock Band, Gear of War 2, Saint's Row 2, Left 4 Dead and loads more that I can't be bothered to type at the moment. I also got my G25 early 2008 as a birthday present but I'll talk about that more in 2007 along with my new PC as my old computer was dying.
