Well I've been updating the website in the background and tweaking odd things. Here is a list of what I've changed over the past month or so: - Removed some un-needed categories
- Installed a custom code component that allows me to add raw html code
- Added a new MP3 player for "The Digitalist's" mixes
- Added a wee GDGT widget to display some of my gadgets
- Re-ordered some articles and removed some broken test ones
- Added Influential Games un my "About Me" section (this covers my top games)
- I'm now able to import articles straight from Word but the formatting is a little off
- Fixed some CSS errors

A few staff members requested the capability of a touch screen on their laptops so after some shopping around I managed to find a really good deal on the HP TX2-1160ea. The tablet PC is fairly good spec with a dual core AMD processor running at 2.2GHz, 3 gig of ram, 320 GB hard drive and an ATI Radeon 3200 but its biggest feature is multi-touch. Not many laptops out there are capable of multi-touch but I thought it would be important when upgrading to Windows 7 to have this feature. As for my job setting them up was fairly straight forward, as like any other HP product it does come with a fair amount of preview-ware such as Office 2007 trail and Norton. About 10 or so programs needed to be uninstall and a few disabled from boot to make the machine slightly more nippy, with the running Windows Vista I was concerned of slow-down but they do seem to be very responsive still compared to other demo units I have seen. Continue reading for more pictures and a special Windows 7 surprise: |

I'm going to be writing a few in-progress articles over the next few weeks covering some of my work projects and to start us off we have this. Our head is having a 60" LG plasma TV installed onto his wall to be used for presentations and for display certain information such as calendars. The room isn't really suitable for a plasma screen as the ceiling is so high and there are multiple obstacles in the way so it was decided that a large screen would be more suitable. So not much to report on at the moment apart for the TV has arrived along with the wall bracket, I'm waiting to install it but first the office needs to be painted and the cable laid before we can start mounting the plasma. One more picture after the break. |

Bit of a random work project here which is short but I thought it would still be good to put some of the little jobs onto my website. We have just had 3 wireless access points delivered for the science laptops, all of these need setting up before they can be wall mounted. Setting up takes a wee bit of time to be honest as first I needed to make a telnet session connected via a serial cable to configure the IP address to our IP range. I've never done a telnet before so after 10mins of playing I managed to figure it out and get the basic IP settings configured which can be seen in the above picture. It doesn't end there though as I had to set the description name, device name, setup and admin password, add the wireless point into our inventory and IP listing and finally smart water the device. It took about an hour to setup all of the access points but now we should be fine over the summer. |

I was given a pre-order key to the new NCSoft MMO Aion which allowed me access to their new beta, so I thought I'd write a little preview on my weekend experience with Aion. To start of with I got my key fairly late so I didn't start downloading the Aion client until an hour before the servers went live so as you could probably guess the NCSoft launcher was getting hammered and download at about 80kbs which meant I wouldn't be playing the beta until the next day. I was reading the Aion Source forums at the time when the servers launched and there seemed to be a huge congestion problem which is understandable. But they were rectified within an hour which is pretty good going for a beta. Keep reading for more preview goodness: |
