Telnet Access Point Setup
Friday, 26 June 2009 10:28
Telnet sesioon of the HP ProCurve Wireless Access Point 420

Bit of a random work project here which is short but I thought it would still be good to put some of the little jobs onto my website. We have just had 3 wireless access points delivered for the science laptops, all of these need setting up before they can be wall mounted. Setting up takes a wee bit of time to be honest as first I needed to make a telnet session connected via a serial cable to configure the IP address to our IP range. I've never done a telnet before so after 10mins of playing I managed to figure it out and get the basic IP settings configured which can be seen in the above picture. It doesn't end there though as I had to set the description name, device name, setup and admin password, add the wireless point into our inventory and IP listing and finally smart water the device. It took about an hour to setup all of the access points but now we should be fine over the summer.

Aion Preview - Beta 2
Monday, 22 June 2009 11:17
Great art in Aion Beta 2
I was given a pre-order key to the new NCSoft MMO Aion which allowed me access to their new beta, so I thought I'd write a little preview on my weekend experience with Aion. To start of with I got my key fairly late so I didn't start downloading the Aion client until an hour before the servers went live so as you could probably guess the NCSoft launcher was getting hammered and download at about 80kbs which meant I wouldn't be playing the beta until the next day. I was reading the Aion Source forums at the time when the servers launched and there seemed to be a huge congestion problem which is understandable. But they were rectified within an hour which is pretty good going for a beta. Keep reading for more preview goodness:

ICT Staff Laptops

Setuping up a new Sony Viao Laptop

There isn't much to say about these laptops so I'll keep this one short. We recently purchased some super media-capable Sony Viao laptops for our ICT staff members, we had 4 in total which all needed setting up. Fairly basic one this as the ICT teachers wanted to keep Windows Vista so it was just a case of removing the 500000 bundle software packages which Sony love chucking in and install our systems plus updates. Once removing all of the unneeded software I made sure that Windows had its latest updates which installing our anti-virus system and mapping the needed network drivers for the staff members. I then went about collecting the serials and smart watering (UV light detection) the laptops for security and audit reasons. Overall very simple task but something I should put on the website as I'm not always building new computer rooms. Read more for an extra picture:

Ghost Busters - Fix + Screens
(3 - user rating)
Thursday, 18 June 2009 23:21
If after installing Ghostbusters you get this issue:
Can't Mount W32ART,POD: File Not Found

Then there is a simple fix :) I think because the installer has an issue creating a new custom directory it installs some files into the default C:\Program Files\Atari... folder. So just copy the files from the default folder (there should be around 8) and move them into your chosen directory during the install so it can find the need files to load. Check out some screenshots for more fun:

Website Update #5
Monday, 15 June 2009 01:00

Another long break since the last website udate but I have been doign fixes and tweaks over the past few weeks for plans of adding some new content, here is what I've been busy doing:

  • Fixed some naming issues from the backend of the website
  • Had some big issues with installing things again onto my website which TSOHost sorted out promptly
  • Added a MP3 player to the left hand side on the homepage (low quailty tunes to save badwidth this is mainly a test at the moment)
  • Changed the styling on the "Guests" module so it would link with the website theme
  • Removed some more of my typo mess!
  • Updated the cache system so changes to my website will happen instantly
  • Testing some software that directly imports data from Microsoft Word

Logitech G19

My review of the new Logitech G19 Keyboard

I've been lucky enough to obtain Logitech's new £150 beef of a gaming keyboard the G19 and as I've been so lucky I thought I'd do a quick review on my experience so far with the keyboard. For people who don't know the G-series keyboards by Logitech are aimed at gaming and often have an LCD screen to display extra data which playing games and numerous other features relating to games such as macro keys, backlighting, media keys and profiles. Straight out of the box the keyboard looks amazing and has a hefty weight to it with everything looking top-notch quality until you see the wrist rest. It's much better than then original G15 rest but it still needs some work and it still feels loose when attached to the keyboard.

With that being one of the only downsides to this keyboard you can continue reading to hear about the pure bliss of all the other features of this keyboard:

Meet Ami

Meet my new kitten Ami
I'm guessing everyone has been wondering why I haven't updated my website in such a long time, well first off I've got this little kitten named Ami. I had her a few weeks ago when she was only 6 weeks old so she has been a right handful as she's so young. Secondly I've been working on another website for my Dad and trying to get my service working properly on TSOhost which has been solved, you will hear more about that in a website update soon. Then finally work has been a pain since we had the Convicker virus and it wasn't managed to well which has giving us 3 weeks of fun clearing nearly every pc on the network. Continue reading for some more pictures and I will have more information on Ami as it come :)
