Bet you didn't know that the Windows 7 Beta came with a personal theme just for Great Britain, with classic seneic views of the British countryside. Along with this custom theme comes the new featuring allowing you to set slideshow style backgrounds where the wallpaper will change to one of your selected images over your chosen time period. I'm already using this and I think it's a great little feature and really easy to use for anyone to add a little variety to their operating system.
A nice little feature which has been added to Windows 7 is the "show Desktop" button on the far right of the task bar next to the clock (highlighted with my green doodle), if you hover over this button it automatically does a preview of your desktop by making all your windows invisible. If you go ahead and click the little rectangle it will minise all of your windows and reveal your desktop rather blandly in comparison.
Here's something that took me a while to notice, in the taskbar each program icon has its own mouse-over colour related to the icon colour. AS you can see in the above picture Firefox has an orange glassy glow due to the logo being 70% orange yet the filezilla glassy glow is red due to the red icon, a nice little touch which adds extra intriguing appeal to Windows 7.
This used to drive me mad having to re arrange windows in order to compare information or just copy details but now in Windows 7 you simple drag one window to the right till the square outline is shown and it will automatically scale the window so you can compare 2 windows at the same time without resizing. Then once you have finished simple drag the window to its normal position and it will return to its original size. I'm already using this feature a fair amount when browsing my FTP and checking out my websites, it makes life so much easier.
Another little effect that you might not of noticed yet within Windows 7. When you mouse-over an active pin icon in your taskbar your mouse will have a nice white glow behind it which follows your movements at the bottom of the icon, this can be seen in the screenshot above where the glow is on the left then when I move my mouse to the right it follows, Magic! IF the pin isn't active then only a small white glow under the icon will appear and won't follow your mouse, boo!
Finally, my Brother told me about this feature which I'm not to sure if its well know or not. When you have loads of windows open and only want to focus on one this feature is great for quickly hiding all those pesky windows, if you simple grab your window and shake it left and right 2-3 times all your over windows will minimise and if you shake it again all the windows will reappear. I managed to grab a picture of the animation in full swing! |
