Now here is an interestring project at work which I enjoyed, the school wanted a digital signage system for the reception area of the school with all the latest news. We already had a plasma TV in place running off a PC hidden under the receptionists desk but they wanted it upgrading into an all-in-one unit so a Samsung SM460DXN was purchased. The 46 inch plasma TV comes with a built in fully feature micro computer which is easily capable of running Windows XP along with the Digital Signage software which just needs one connection via Ethernet to control the whole machine. Before we used to remote-access the computer in reception to change what would be displayed but the Samsung Digital Signage system came with its own software "Magic Info Pro". I must admit the software gets a bit of getting used to but after the initial hour of confusion we were up and running keep reading to see how we currently have the signage setup. ![]() I use Magic Info Pro to configure everything that is displayed on the screen along with the scheduling system. The software allows you to create different "screens" these screens can consist of multiple windows, for example at work I've currently setup a screen with a slide show via Microsoft Powerpoint 2003 to the left hand side of the screen with all the latest school events, then on the right hand side is split into 3 sections, Live BBC News 24 Stream, RSS feed and a very presentable picture of the school. Only one problem occurred with this setup and that was because their isn't a media player stream to BBC News 24 but I found another way around this by loading the standard flash live stream then cropping the edges of the webpages making it impossible to see the rest of the website. As for the first picture you can see the slight bit of flash snow I added to the picture of the school for the Christmas period. Overall it's a great system to use and I really enjoy playing around with the software to see what new effects I could make such as the screen looks fairly blank on its own so I designed a background picture in Photoshop with the schools colour theme in mind and screen resolution to split each section more cleanly. |
