Here is a breif overlook of what I've been doing at work when installing different ICT suites. Many of these are going to be similar so sorry for the repetitiveness of the articles.
To start us off is one of the Language rooms as it was one of our more recent refitting. This was fairly simple process as it was only upgrading 15 computers where as I'm usually used to install 30 computers or so but yet again it still wasn't half some work to get it done. First off we had to remove the 15 ancient computers that they already had in the room and considering this room is on the 2nd floor it meant a fair amount of lift usage/carry CRT Monitors downstairs. These old computers then had to be taken up to the school's garage for storage which is about a 150metre walk from the room we were upgrading, but once that was done it was fairly straight forward. The new computers came with a mass amount of packaging which meant a fair amount of treks to the skip which is about a 100metres away from the room but they all installed fairly smoothly with all the computers working. I created an image of one computer a few days before the actual install to give us more time to focus on the physical aspect of setting up the room, the image is rather basic as no added software needed to be installed for languages that was possible via the image. After imaging the computers via Norton Ghost we had some issues trying to get the languages specialist software up and running again, my colleague did a few tweaks and got it working again. Overall this was a pretty basic install with the only problems being: having to haul all the gear to a distant location and some issues with the number of plug/network sockets available which were both sorted out easily by some clever cable management. |
