![]() Look at all of those little laptops getting imaged, here are the new science department laptops for our school. There isn't too much to say about this project as its going to get re-done soon enough after some dodgy descision, you can find out how messed up they are after the break:
Okay, here is one of the refurbished Sony Viao laptops:
Considering these are refurbished laptops they are in amazing condition and we didn't have one with any noticeable damage and some of them were even totally brand new. One problem with these laptops at the moment is that there isn't any wireless down in the science rooms so the teachers have requested them to be stand-alone without any internet or certain applications (not sure why). These are the first laptops in the school to have Windows Vista which has caused a little confusing with some of the kids but they also use the free version of MacAfee (which I despise) and a trail version of Office 2007. We kept the standard Sony Viao install with a few security alterations so each laptop is fairly messy and filled to the brim with freeware Viao advertising. We are going to create a proper image for them over the summer and add some wireless points around the science classrooms so the laptops will actually become more than a typewriter.
To actually get them up and running though we made a quick image so we didn't have to go through the long winded "Welcome to Vista" setup on each laptop, some stuff was removed in that process but 70% of the software that came with the machine is still running on the newly created image. I'll leave it at that for now and go into more detail in the summer when we fully setup the machines. |
